Huawei brings three new competitions for startup ecosystem and youth development

The Dhaka Times Desk Huawei, the world's leading ICT service provider, has (June 15) launched 3 new competitions to develop the ICT skills of local startups and young people.

The programs are: ICT Incubator, App Developer and Tech Women. The opening ceremony of these three competitions was held today at 11:30 am at Lakeshore Hotel in the capital.

All these 3 programs are designed to launch new startups and implement mobile app development ideas. Meanwhile, the ICT Incubator competition will focus on startups. The competition is divided into two stages – Idea Stage and Early Stage. The ICT Incubator competition organized by Huawei has IDEA and Startup Bangladesh Limited as strategic partners.

Winners of both the Idea Stage and Early Stage of the ICT Incubation Competition will receive prize money up to five lakh rupees. Startup CEOs will have the opportunity to visit successful startup operations abroad and receive Huawei Cloud Credit worth up to USD 125,000. The first and second runner-up will get prize money up to a maximum of three lakh and one lakh taka respectively. CEOs of first and second runner-up startups will also have the opportunity to visit successful startup operations abroad; You will also get 80 thousand US dollars worth of Huawei cloud credit.

The other two contests are being solely organized by Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited. Students of the university will participate in the Huawei App Developer and Huawei Tech Women competitions. A team can have a maximum of two members. Third or fourth year students of any university with CGPA above 3.0 will be considered eligible to apply. Only women can participate in the Huawei Tech Women program. On the other hand, both men and women can participate in the Huawei App Developer Program.

App developers and winners of the Huawei Tech Women competition will receive prize money up to Tk 3 lakh; In addition, they will also have the opportunity to meet successful app developers from around the world and receive Huawei Cloud resources worth up to USD 5,000. The first and second runners-up will receive a maximum prize money of two and one lakh taka and cloud resources of three thousand and two thousand US dollars respectively.

Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP and Pan Junfeng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited were present as the chief guests at the inauguration ceremony.

The opening ceremony began with a welcome speech by Pan Junfeng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited. After that, the main speech was presented by the Dean of ECE (CHUET) and Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section. M. Mashiul Haq. Then a brief description of the program was presented and the speech was given by Ilmul Haque Sajib, Co-Founder and COO of Seba Platform Limited, Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Technology. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Project Director of IDEA Project. Altaf Hossain and Sami Ahmed, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh Limited.

Junaid Ahmed Palak, Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology said in the event, “We need to create a startup community to build a digital society, knowledge-based economy and innovative Bangladesh. Pan Junfeng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Limited said, “The ICT Incubator will support early-stage startups and idea-stage startups to build a viable and sustainable startup ecosystem for everyone. This initiative will help third and fourth year students of EEE, ECE and CSE departments to enhance their existing skills by acquiring new skills. The program will also focus on providing necessary support to the country's women (who are working in the technology sector or studying technology). Dean of ECE Department of Chuet and President of IEEE Bangladesh Section Prof. Dr. M. Moshiul Haque said, “Huawei App Developer, Tech Women and ICT Incubator programs are all very timely initiatives in developing an innovation platform for our young generation and talent. I believe, these innovative initiatives will play a far-reaching role in developing the talent of the youth and create an opportunity to develop creativity by acquiring and recognizing their skills.”

The vice-chancellor of the Islamic University of Technology, Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam said, “Over the past few years, I have seen Huawei take several exceptional initiatives in youth development. For example: In Huawei's iconic Seeds for the Future program, I have seen the positive impact on students' lives through their spontaneous participation in acquiring various knowledge. Students can acquire new skills through these three programs; At the same time, they will also get an opportunity to showcase their acquired skills.”

Co-Founder and COO of Seva Platform Limited, Ilmul Haque Sajib said, “In the last two years, we have seen how the ICT sector has contributed to the GDP and continues to play a role in maintaining the trend of growth and development even in times of crisis.
