While most electronics device makers have settled on the USB-C port these days, Apple is moving at its own pace. Apple has been fighting against the Common Port for years, but that battle is about to end.
According to a recent report by Reuters, European Union legislators and representatives of European Union countries are going to make the final decision on the common charger port.
The source mentioned that USB-C ports will be mandatory for charging smartphones, tablets and wireless headphones in the future. Here the port of the device is mentioned. However, there may be no obligation regarding USB-C supported chargers.
However, some of the devices are yet to come to a conclusion. Some legislators have proposed such a requirement for laptops as well. Many laptops already use USB-C ports, but most use barrel plugs. It is believed that there will be some companies against if this proposal is accepted.
Standards may also be set for wireless charging later. It is said that the European Union may take such a decision by 2025. However, some countries and the European Commission have also given longer time limits due to technical reasons.
