The Dhaka Times Desk More than 19 million people in the country are currently starving due to dramatic cuts in food aid to Yemen, the UN's World Food Program said.
According to a UN report, more Yemenis have been starved since the Saudi-led coalition war against the country began in 2015.
The United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that 160,000 Yemenis are facing severe food shortages or famine due to cuts in aid budgets or funding in Yemen.
On the other hand, 5 million Yemenis are getting less than half of their daily food needs. Eight million Yemenis will receive less than a third of their daily food needs.
OCHA also said the UN children's agency UNICEF may stop providing medical care to more than 50,000 severely malnourished children in Yemen starting next July, and the UN will end its maternal and child health program in Yemen, which had reached 2.5 million Yemenis. Children and 100,000 Yemeni mothers.
UN humanitarian relief and aid agencies have been cutting aid and food aid to Yemen for some time due to lack of funds or budgets. Last December, the UN's World Food Program said a lack of funding had forced the agency to further reduce food aid to 8 million poor people in Yemen.
The agency also announced another round of cuts in food aid to Yemen last month.
