Shayja – known simply as this name – lives in the Kannur district of the southern Indian state of Kerala. Like many other women, she also has several hairs on her lips.
He regularly tweezs his eyebrows himself, but never feels the need to remove the hair growing on his upper lip. Five years ago, his mustache became quite visible, and Shayza decided to keep it.
He said, "Now I can't imagine myself without it. When the Covid pandemic started, I didn't like wearing a mask all the time because it covered my face”.

Shayza says she wants to make her now-teenage daughter similarly confident. Shayza's family and friends have accepted his moustache. His own daughter also often tells him that the mustache suits him well.
But when he goes out on the street, people have to hear many kinds of comments. He said, "People make fun of me, many say that boys should have a mustache, why should a girl have a mustache."
