The Dhaka Times Desk For the eighth time, NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022, initiated by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services BASIS and in collaboration with BASIS Students Forum, ended successfully with a grand prize distribution ceremony.
This hackathon started from September 30 and lasted for 36 hours continuously. The prize distribution ceremony of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022 was held at the Auditorium of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on October 1 at 7 pm. Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar was the chief guest. Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Vice-Chancellor Tanveer Hasan was present as guest of honor on the occasion.
Convener of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022, Tanveer Hossain Khan, said in his welcome speech that more than 2 thousand contestants from 9 cities of the country have participated in NASA Space Apps Challenge 2022. From there, a two-day hackathon was held at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) with the top 50 projects in a hybrid model out of the top 110 projects and the remaining 60 projects online.
Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) Vice-Chancellor Tanveer Hasan said, two years earlier, our country's young competitors have become world champions. This time too I hope this winning streak will continue. I think there is no alternative to such competition especially in building a smart and digital Bangladesh.
In the speech of the Chief Guest, Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, I find the future Bangladesh in the potential youth who work in the ground team of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 of our country. In particular, standing on the threshold of the fifth industrial revolution, the importance of competitions such as the NASA Space Apps Challenge is undeniable. He thanked BASIS for regularly organizing such constructive competitions to build Digital Bangladesh.
Basis president Russell T Ahmed said in the concluding speech of the program, scientist role models are not being created in our country. But for the development and prosperity of a country, it is very important to create scientists. I would like to present the winners of this year's NASA Space Apps Challenge as role models in front of the whole of Bangladesh, so that seeing them will create the desire and desire to become scientists in the future. Besides, I want to create a museum with the best projects of NASA Space Apps Challenge in the past years, where school-college students can come and get inspiration to become scientists.

Incidentally, the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration-NASA is implementing this competition internationally in 313 cities of the world, while BASIS organizes it in 9 cities of Bangladesh (Dhaka, Chittagong Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Comilla). In addition to engaging 1 crore students through social media in the NASA Space Apps Challenge, 2 lakh students are directly and competitively involved
