The mosque you see is the historic Masjidkur Mosque in Khulna. This mosque is located in the historic Amadi village on the eastern side of the ancient Kapotaksha river in Koira Upazila of Khulna.
It is believed that Mahatma Khan Jahan Ali's disciples Bura Khan and Fateh Khan ruled the area as Kacharis in this village during the period 1450-1490 AD. They built a 9-domed mosque here, which they named Masjidkur. This brick-built mosque is the oldest antiquities of South Bengal.
Kapotaksha is a river of Sundarbans. It takes monstrous form during high tides. To the south of the mosque were the kacharibari and tombs of Bura Khan and Fateh Khan, much of which was washed away by the Kapotakshi floods.
The size of each side of this square mosque is 16.76 meters, and the inner size is 12.19 meters. Apart from the wall facing the Qibla, the remaining 3 walls also have 3 arched entrances each to enter the mosque. But the middle entrances are relatively large. A semi-circular mihrab is built in the wall facing the kebele. But the middle mihrab is relatively large. Inside the mosque there is a roof on 4 pillars. These 4 pillars divide the interior of the mosque into 9 squares. And the squares are covered with domes.
The design of the buildings built by Khan Jahan at Bagerhat is almost similar. The mosque is currently under the supervision of the Department of Archeology of the Government of Bangladesh.
