The Dhaka Times Desk Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the national trade organization of the country's software and information technology services sector, organized the BASIS National ICT Awards for the fifth time.
The award distribution ceremony was held at a five-star hotel in the capital on the night of October 31. 108 awards were given in total 36 categories at this year's event to recognize the innovative products and service projects of the information technology sector of the country. The award-winning projects will also participate in the international competition of the Apicta Awards, the Oscars of the Asia-Pacific IT sector.
Under the chairmanship of BASIS President Russell T Ahmed, Hon'ble Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Mr. Junaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest. Honorable Senior Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Department NM Ziaul Alam PAA and President of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md. Jasim Uddin.
In a video message, Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak said, "Today's winners are the winners of the Asia Pacific ICT Oscar Epicta competition in Australia, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Will fight with countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia.
Currently, our ICT exports to more than 60 countries in the world amount to about 140 million dollars. We want to increase it to $5 billion by 2025 and create at least 3 million jobs. Those who participated in the competition today will meet this target in the future.
Calling attention to innovative technology for the future, the state minister also said that in the present world, software is the driving force of the future economy. By 2041 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Vision-2041, an intelligent, cost-effective, knowledge-based innovative smart developed Bangladesh, the main driving force will be our export earnings from the software industry. At the same time, the internal economic activities of Bangladesh will become completely dependent on the software industry.
Basis president Russell T Ahmed raised 3 demands for the government and concerned. He said, “E-Governance projects are done by local ICT institutions. The concerned BASIS member institutions should be recognized for that work. The name of the organization working on the project should be mentioned. This makes it easier for us to get work abroad as well.”
Along with this, Russell T Ahmed also demanded to involve BASIS in the country's industry branding and human resource development. He further said, “The best projects awarded today will participate in the Apicta Awards competition. We try to groom them. In the past years, our Bangladeshi company has become the champion in several stages there. We believe that this time too we will bring home the award from Epicta.”
The BASIS President further said, “Through the BASIS National ICT Awards, we select innovative and promising IT products and services across the country through competition and award them with recognition and encouragement. These products and services expose us to the capabilities of the IT sector in the country as well as in the international arena. This year's event has given special consideration to projects that are effective in implementing Digital Bangladesh to Smart Bangladesh.
BASIS Advisory Standing Committee President M Rashidul Hasan served as the convener of BASIS National ICT Awards 2022. Moreover, Abdullah H.
