The event was organized on the evening of November 20 at Lakeshore Hotel in the capital. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP, was present as the chief guest in the event presided over by BASIS President Russell T Ahmed. BASIS Director and Chairman of BASIS Japan Desk AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.

Foreign Secretary Md. Masood Bin Momen, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki, JICA Bangladesh Head Ichiguchi Tomohide, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Bangladesh Representative Yuji Ando and Miyazaki University President Dr. Hiroshi Samoshima.

State Minister for Information Communication and Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said, "Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman told us to give importance to two very valuable resources namely soil and people. We have also seen in Japan, one of the most developed countries in the world, that they have also been able to strengthen their economy by prioritizing land and people.

Hon'ble Prime Minister has taken our country to the peak of development in the last 13 years by adopting some special strategies using education and technology. ICT subjects have been included at secondary and higher secondary level for students. Also, computer labs have been established for them so that they can acquire knowledge about coding and programming from an early age.”

He further said, "Smart Citizen, Smart Economy, Smart Government and Smart Society are being prioritized to create Smart Bangladesh by 2041. AI, robotics, big data analytics, etc. have also been introduced to make people's lives easier.”

The state minister said, "Now is the right time for Bangladesh to work together with Japan. Hon'ble Prime Minister always suggested that the government should create a business friendly environment and the private sector should do business. This is one of the strategies of the current government that we follow. That is, the government will bring a business-friendly environment and the private sector will do business, which is the current government's strategy."

State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak also said, "I hope that the market-scoping guidance of BASIS Japan Desk will help Japanese firms to increase their activities in Bangladesh, open up new markets, increase investment and also encourage expatriate Bangladeshis living in Japan to invest in Bangladesh".

Speaking as a special guest at the event, Foreign Secretary Md. Masud Bin Momen said, "Japan's cooperation in the overall development of Bangladesh is always positive. Japan is one of Bangladesh's main friends in terms of economic and diplomatic relations. Since the independence of Bangladesh, Japan has consistently participated in the development process of Bangladesh."

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki said, “Bangladesh is an important place for Japanese investment. Bangladesh has advanced a lot in terms of information technology. Therefore, the IT sector of Bangladesh is a significant potential sector for investment. Government of Bangladesh has taken various programs giving great importance to the information technology sector of the country. So there is a lot of opportunity for Bangladesh and Japan to work together in the IT sector.” He feels that this type of event like Japan Day will play a significant role in related development in terms of trade investment and networking. He praised the activities of the BASIS Japan Desk and encouraged more activities.

BASIS President Russell T Ahmed said, “Bangladesh and Japan have very good and close relations. BASIS has always been working to develop deeper relations between Bangladesh and Japan by bridging business friendship in the field of technology between the two countries. The BASIS will work to further develop the private sector and open up new business opportunities for Bangladesh to improve the overall business environment, economic activity and attract more foreign investment in the future.”
