The Dhaka Times Desk At least 73 soldiers have been killed in three days of attacks on various junta positions in Myanmar. The country's armed rebel group People's Defense Forces (PDF) made this claim.
This information was given in a report of Myanmar-based news media Irrawaddy. According to the report, the army seized power after overthrowing the elected government of Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi last February. When mass protests broke out against it, the junta government began a policy of violent repression.
More than a few thousand protesters have been killed so far in the junta operation. This violence led to a grouping of several armed groups to form the People's Defense Forces (PDF).
According to reports from the Irrawaddy, fighting broke out in Magwe, Mandal, Sagaing, Bago, Yangon and Taninthari regions. However, the media is yet to independently verify the number of army casualties.
At least 20 junta soldiers were killed in an attack in the Domoso area of Kayah state on Saturday (December 3). During the fighting, the soldiers fled leaving behind a large number of arms, ammunition and military equipment. Another 30 soldiers were killed in clashes with PDF members in Magwe on Sunday (December 4).
