The hearing, which took place at East London Tribunal, was told that Charlotte started working as an administrative assistant at the CIS Service in May 2021. He did this on a £20,000-a-year contract. Charlotte is forced to quit her job when she becomes pregnant just weeks before signing on for the new year.
The hearing was also told that Charlotte told her workplace manager Nicola Calder that she had had eight miscarriages in the past. He also told her about his worries about the unborn child. Instead of comforting Charlotte, the officer fires her.
Nicola Calder said she did not sign Charlotte's contract renewal. That is why she is not entitled to any maternity leave. He told Charlotte, 'We're under no obligation to keep you.'
Notably, Charlotte filed a lawsuit against the company alleging discrimination and unfair dismissal. The tribunal ordered her to pay £14,885 compensation because she was fired because she was pregnant.
