The Dhaka Times Desk The first phase of the 56th World Ijtema began on Friday (January 13) on the banks of the Turag River in Tongir. All preparations have already been completed except for some detailed work on the vast grounds ahead of the Ijtema.
On the occasion of Ijtema, religious festivals are in full swing in Tongi and surrounding areas. Colorful street lamps are also adorning the streets around the Maidan. To ensure the safety of the arriving worshippers, members of the law and order forces were stationed around the Maidan from 2 pm on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in view of the World Ijtema, all types of leave of all doctors, officials and employees working in Tongi Government Hospital have been cancelled. New deep tube wells have also been installed to solve the water shortage in Maidan. Moreover, on the occasion of Ijtema, special trains, buses, fire service, traffic police, electricity, Titas gas authorities have taken extensive preparations.
Meanwhile, yesterday (Thursday) morning there was a massive traffic jam in the capital Dhaka. The entire Dhaka traffic jam created a grinding situation. This traffic jam is caused due to the fact that many pilgrims from different districts started coming together to the capital yesterday. Next Sunday (January 15) the first phase of prayers will be held.
The second part of Vishwa Ijtema will be next Friday, January 20 and the final prayer will be on January 22 in the morning.
