The Dhaka Times Desk The ozone layer, the earth's protective shield, is now beginning to heal. Scientists hope to be able to return to the previous state in the next few decades.
According to a recent UN report on this issue, the ozone layer started to heal at a rate of 3 percent per decade since 2000. Parts of the Northern Hemisphere will recover by 2030 and parts of Antarctica by 2060.
In the 1980s, it was first known that the ozone layer, Earth's protective shield, was damaged. After 10 years it reached its worst condition.
The ozone layer is located 6 miles above the Earth's surface, protecting the Earth from the sun's ultraviolet rays.
In the mid-1980s, scientists decided that if the ozone layer continued to be destroyed, it would disappear within the next few decades. This will also increase the rate of skin cancer. Crops will also be severely damaged and the marine food chain will be destroyed.
That is why the international community came forward to solve this complex problem of the ozone layer. Alternatives to the CFC industry are explored. Affordable alternatives are also currently being produced to prevent wastage of fossil fuels.
