Historical Manikganj Machaine Mosque

The historic architecture of Harirampur in Manikganj is this ancient Machaine Jame Mosque. This three-domed and attractively artistic mosque is one of the oldest in the country.

শিলালিপি অনুযায়ী দেখা যায়, এই মসজিদটি ১৫০১ সালে হোসেন শাহ্ কর্তৃক নির্মিত হয়েছিল। মানিকগঞ্জ জেলা শহর হতে প্রায় ২৩ কিলোমিটার দূরে নির্মিত মসজিদটির মূল অংশের ওপর রয়েছে ৩টি গম্বুজ। উত্তর এবং দক্ষিণ পাশের গম্বুজের চেয়ে মাঝের গম্বুজটি হলো একটু বড়। মসজিদটির মূল অংশের ওপর রয়েছে নিখুঁতভাবে করা কারুকাজ। প্রতিটি দেওয়ালেও রয়েছে প্রচুর কারুকাজ, যা দর্শনার্থীদের দৃষ্টি কাড়ে। জানা গেছে, এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণে ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে চুন, সুরকি এবং সাদা সিমেন্ট। ঐতিহ্যের সাক্ষী হয়ে আজও টিকে আছে এই মসজিদটি। ক’বছর আগে প্রাচীন এই মসজিদটি সংস্কার করা হয়।

According to history, during the reign of the famous Sultan Alauddin Hossain Shah of the famous Hussain Shahi dynasty of Bengal, Shah Rustam (RA) came to Manikganj region to preach Islam and established a Khanka in this Machain village. It is said that he had miraculous powers. Fascinated by his miraculous qualities, the people of the area embraced Islam. He was staying on a platform. Gradually the followers of Hazrat Shah Rustam started to live and build houses around the place.

According to local legend, a Kamel dervish named Hazrat Shah Rustam used to pray sitting on a bamboo platform on the Ichamati river. The name Machaine village was later derived from this Machaine name.

More about the history of the mosque, Sultan Alauddin was a Muslim ruler. He was very happy with Hazrat Rustam Shah's preaching of Islam. He also evokes special devotion to this great elder saint.
