Dr. Skov said in a later tweet that 'Further observations of the #SolarPolarVortex revealed that it took about 4 hours for the element to orbit the pole at approximately 60 degrees latitude. This means that the horizontal wind speed in this event was 96 kilometers per second or 60 miles per second.”
Scott McIntosh, a solar physicist at the US National Center for Atmospheric Research, has been observing the Sun for decades.
Scott McIntosh told Space.com that he had never seen parts of the sun break off and 'whirl' and fall like a whip through the solar atmosphere.
