ঐতিহাসিক ৭ই মার্চ আজ 1

On this day in 1971, the architect of independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called the nation for independence in a historic speech at a public meeting at Ramna Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) in Dhaka. On that day, he said in his unique speech, 'This time's struggle is our liberation struggle, this time's struggle is freedom's struggle' - he also announced the motto of Bengalis' liberation from the oppression of Pakistan on this 7th March.

Bangabandhu's March 7 speech is a very important and significant event in the history of independence. It was this speech of his that lit up the eyes of the doubting Bengalis with the bright immortal light of the conviction of independence. The long-exploited and deprived nation was eagerly waiting for such a golden moment for the cherished freedom. March 7 is therefore marked as a unique day in Bengali history.

Originally, the nation jumped into the liberation war on the call of Bangabandhu's historic 7th March speech. Bangabandhu announced the country's independence in the early hours of March 26 after the brutal massacre by the Pakistan army on the night of March 25. The armed liberation war officially began. At the end of the 9-month war, the final victory was achieved on December 16 in return for the sacrifice of 3 million martyrs, the loss of honor of 2.5 million mabons and the incomparable sacrifice of the besieged countrymen. An independent sovereign state named Bangladesh emerged.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the lifeblood of the 23-year continuous bloody struggle of the Bengali nation against the Pakistani colonial rule. On this day, he uttered in a thunderous voice to realize the desire of the freedom-loving people in their indomitable desire to gain freedom, 'this time's struggle is our liberation struggle, this time's struggle is the struggle for freedom', you have to fight the enemy with everything you have, in every village, in every neighborhood, the struggle is under the leadership of Awami League. Build councils and be prepared with everything you have. Remember when I have given blood, I will give more blood - I will free the people of this country, God willing.

The non-cooperation movement called by Bangabandhu against the conspiracy of the Pakistani military rulers from March 1, 1971 took its final shape on the tumultuous day of March 7. Dhaka was the city of procession that day. People from different parts of the country, including Dhaka, gathered at the race course ground on foot, by bus or by train. The huge race course field was filled with millions of people. On that day, the race course took the form of a sea of people who came to hear Bangabandhu's speech. Instantly, millions of angry people gathered with upraised bamboo sticks erupted into a roar. Numerous red sun flags with the map of Bengal were flying in the air. The whole city was shaking with the slogans of millions of voices.

That day at 3:20 PM Bangabandhu, the lifeblood of Bengali, came up on stage. Stand in front of the mic. Amid sky-shaking slogans and momentous applause, he waved his hand and congratulated the waiting crowd. Then he started his historical speech. Like the line of the poem, he continued saying - 'And if a shot is fired, and if my people are killed, I request you, build forts in every house. You have to fight the enemy with everything you have, and the roads of life are all you have, unless I order you to stop.'

Then time is running out. The crowd at the race course was tumultuous. They want to hear more. Then Bangabandhu uttered his last words - 'Be prepared with whatever you have. Remember, when I have given blood, I will give more blood - I will free the people of this country, God willing. This struggle is the struggle for our liberation, this struggle is the struggle for freedom. Joy Bangla.'

The significance of this speech of only 18 minutes, the far-reaching impact in this country is unmatched. Bangabandhu's March 7 speech is unique among the best speeches of world leaders. Through this speech, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman raised the Bengali nation to an incredible height. He raised four-point demands including withdrawal of martial law, return of army to barracks, compensation for martyrs and transfer of power to people's representatives. In this public meeting, a special prayer was offered under the leadership of Maulana Abdur Rasheed Tarkbagish seeking forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs.

All the arrangements were made by the Dhaka Betar Authority to broadcast Bangabandhu's speech directly from the Race Course Maidan. The campaign also started. Soon after the start, when the military authorities stopped the broadcast, all the Bengali employees of Betar left the Betar building. All broadcasting activities were stopped. Various rumors spread outside Dhaka. Late at night, however, the military authorities were forced to allow Bangabandhu's full speech to be broadcast, and it was broadcast the next morning.
