The Dhaka Times Desk EU member states have finally agreed to buy large quantities of ammunition to give to Ukraine.
Foreign policy chief Josep Borrell announced the plan after a meeting of EU defense ministers in Stockholm on Wednesday (March 8).
According to Josep Borrell, EU member states will receive one billion euros in financial aid to purchase ammunition. Moreover, they will also get one hundred million Euros for joint purchase of ammunition.
Josep Borrell said, 'The meeting decided to buy ammunition in general. However, several questions still remain. We will talk about those things again. There will be extensive talk between us.' He also said that the plan will be finalized at the meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers on March 20.
This proposal was first made by Estonia. After that, Ukraine's Defense Minister Reznikov appealed to the EU's defense ministers to give them 1 million 155mm shells. The price of which is four hundred million euros.
He claims that this ammunition is needed to fight Russia and strike back. Josep Borrell's plan is to give Ukraine half the amount of ammunition it asked for. Still, it is undoubtedly a very important step.
