This gardening school is located right on the highway in the city of Berlin. There are many trees, small vineyards, ponds etc. covering about 10 thousand square meters. School students are also getting a chance to learn many things hands-on.
Gardening school teacher Susanne Müller-Kall told the media, 'Berlin's gardening schools are located in green and educational areas of the city. Some are even over a hundred years old. Children can discover nature here and learn about the environment. But not only children, now also adults can come here. Anyone who wants to learn about conservation and environment or simply want to experience nature can come here.'
Coniferous trees are taught. Children's school is nearby. Every month they can come here and learn about various things. Municipal authorities finance these gardening schools. Although not open to the general public, anyone can participate in educational events.
A very different project is also underway in the eastern part of the city. Which is called 'Intercultural Community Garden'. Harvested months ago in old communist-era buildings. There anyone can use public birth open fields.
In the country, one has to pay a monthly fee of 15 euros to eat one's own 40 square meters. However, there is no regulation on the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Tim Kegeler is in charge of that garden. He himself is not a gardener, but a social worker.
'The Intercultural Garden also has a different concept,' says Tim Kegler. They are open to all. They are located within the mohalla. They are also helpful in promoting exchange between different cultures. We work with various organizations in the area, such as a shelter for refugees, a kindergarten next door or a primary school across the street, etc.'
The city also has dozens of community gardens. Many of which also lead to cross-cultural convergence. Deepti Akorath and her husband Bipin Madhbanuni opted for a more realistic garden concept.
These two software engineers from India have rented a garden on the outskirts of the city. It can be reached within a few minutes by bicycle from home. They cultivate vegetables there from April to November.
Deepti told the media, 'We started working during the Covid. Because we had nothing else to do at that time. I was working from home. That's why I got such an opportunity to go out of the house and do something good. There was no way to do anything else. We couldn't even go anywhere. I am continuing the same work this year.'
Gardening school children will have to wait several more months for the harvest season. But they have now become experts on evergreens thanks to the 'conifer' subject in winter.
