Considering the importance of this tourism, the South Korean government has recently taken various initiatives to increase tourists.
According to a report, people from 22 countries of the world, including the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, can travel to South Korea without a visa only through the electronic travel permit system. On the other hand, transit visas will be introduced for travelers from 34 countries, where travelers can stay in Korea for one consecutive month.
President Yoon Suk-yeol made the announcement while chairing an economic meeting at the president's office in the capital, Seoul, to boost tourism and encourage tourism cities.
The country's Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho said, 'We will provide incentives for travel. We will continue our efforts to develop the tourism sector and increase travel facilities for tourists. There will be more than 130 regional festivals across the country.
Coupons related to local festivals will be provided and free entry and facilities will also be extended to government institutions. In addition, South Korean authorities will extend the annual leave period of government officials in April and July to create a travel-friendly environment.
K-pop, shopping and cultural events will also be expanded, officials said. "Our goal is to connect Korea's diverse cultures and tourists," said the country's president, Yoon Suk Yeol.
South Korea has set a target of attracting more than one million tourists this year. Last year it was only 30 lakhs. Foreign language services like Chinese and French will be added to the K-ETA system and the validity period will be increased from the current 2 years to 3 years.
Tourists from China can stay up to 5 days at the domestic airport or in the Seoul metropolitan area while transiting through Jeju Island. The country's government has decided to actively increase the number of international flights to China, Japan and Southeast Asia.
The country's government plans to increase flights from China to 954 flights per week from 63 and Japan to 1,04 flights per week from the current 863 by September. Several major K-pop concerts will also be held across the country from May to October. These include Seoul Festa 2023 in April and a concert in the country's port city of Busan in May.
