The man was tricked into investing in cryptocurrency by his online lover. This information was given in a report of South China Morning Post.
According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the 55-year-old Italian man, who lives in the Western District of Hong Kong, fell victim to a love scam through the dating app Tinder in mid-February. A woman from Singapore pretended to be a share trader and started making love with him online.
Following his word, the person invests in cryptocurrency in hopes of higher profits. Between March 6 and 23 this year, the Italian man made around 22 financial transactions by depositing money into 9 different accounts.
After making the investment, he did not get any money back and doubts arose in his mind. Then at the end of March, the person went to the police about the matter. Police describe the crime as 'acquiring property by deception'. For which a person can be imprisoned for up to 10 years.
