The Dhaka Times Desk Polling for Gazipur City Corporation elections is going on. Today Thursday (May 25) started at 8 am. Voting will continue till 4 pm.
Voting in this election is done through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). This time 11 lakh 79 thousand 476 voters will get the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in this city.
Among them 5 lakh 92 thousand 762 men and 5 lakh 86 thousand 696 women and 18 are third gender voters. Earlier, the election campaign ended at 12 midnight on Tuesday. The Election Commission (EC) has taken all kinds of preparations on the occasion of the election. CCTV cameras have been installed in all centers.
8 candidates for the post of mayor and 248 candidates for the post of councilor and 79 candidates for the post of women councilor are competing in the election.
More than 13,000 members of law and order forces have been deployed for the security of this election. The local administration has taken all preparations to make the elections fair.
Law enforcement forces to maintain peace and order in the elections include the Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Forces.
It is known that out of 480 polling stations, 351 polling stations have been identified as critical (critical) by the Election Commission (EC). There will also be mobile teams in 57 wards. Moreover, 19 striking forces under the leadership of 19 magistrates are on vigil in the polling stations.
Besides 30 teams of RAB and Ansar members, 13 platoon BGB members are also deployed to maintain law and order in Gazipur city area. Also 19 striking force and 57 mobile teams of police are working.
Long queues of voters were seen at the polling stations till the writing of this report. No incidents were reported. Fair voting is going on till now.
