The Dhaka Times Desk A traditional dish of China, fried with spices mixed with stones, is called 'Fried Pebbles'. Basically after frying, foodies enjoy the spicy taste inside by sucking the pebbles. Then drops the stone like chewing gum.
According to media reports, this traditional dish from China's Hubei province is known regionally as 'suodiu', which means 'suck and dump'. Since last week, there has been a lot of buzz around this dish on Chinese social media. In the shared videos, roadside eateries are also seen preparing and selling this variant of the dish.
The video shows the cook taking pebbles to a frying pan and pouring chilli oil into it. The next step is sprinkling the garlic sauce on the stones. It is then fried with garlic cloves and crushed chillies.
In the video, the chef is also seen beautifully describing each step while preparing this dish. The traditional food is then served to the customer in a palm-sized box.
According to the cook, the food is as popular as alcohol in the region. A box of fried pebbles costs about 16 yuan or 2.30 US dollars, which is about 241 taka in Bangladeshi taka.
