রক্তাক্ত বিভীষিকাময় ২১ আগস্ট: ভয়াবহ গ্রেনেড হামলার ১৯তম বার্ষিকী আজ 1

On this day in 2004, this unprecedented grenade attack was carried out during the BNP-Jamaat coalition government during the Awami League's peaceful anti-terror rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. The then opposition leader and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was injured in this grenade attack.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina was the victim of a terrorist attack while protesting against terrorism in the street in front of the central office at Bangabandhu Avenue. In that incident, the party leaders and activists protected Sheikh Hasina by creating human armor. However, a total of 24 activists including Ivy Rahman, Awami League's women's affairs secretary and wife of the late president Zillur Rahman, died due to the grenade attack. Later, in the verdict of the trial of the grenade attack, the evidence of the involvement of the ministers and officials of the then ruling BNP coalition government was found that the attack was carried out with the direct support of that government.

On the 19th anniversary of this heinous grenade attack in history today (Monday), the Bengali nation is paying tribute to the victims of the attack. Various political, social and cultural organizations including Awami League have taken extensive programs to observe the day.

On the day of the grenade attack, every hospital in the capital had no place to store the injured. Sheikh Hasina miraculously survived the infernal grenade attack. Seeing that Hasina, the main target of the assassins, had survived, 12 rounds were fired at her car. However, the targeted bullets could not penetrate the bulletproof vehicle carrying Bangabandhu's daughter that day. Immediately after the attack, Sheikh Hasina was cordoned off in a car and taken to her then residence Sudha Sadan in Dhanmondi. 16 people were killed on the spot in the bloody incident on 21 August. Later, the total death toll stood at 24. Apart from Ivy Rahman, Lance Corporal (retd) Mahbubur Rashid, Hasina Mumtaz Rina, Rizia Begum, Rafiqul Islam (Ginger Uncle), Mohammad Hanif aka Muktijoddha Hanif, Ratan Shikdar, Mushtaq Ahmed, Liton Munshi, Billal were killed in that bloody and horrific viol grenade attack. Hossain, Abdul Quduch Patwari, Abbas Uddin Shikder, Atiq Sarkar, Mamun Mridha, Abul Kasem, Nasir Uddin, Aminul Islam, Abul Kalam Azad, Abdur Rahim, Zaheed Ali, Motaleb and Sufia Begum. Dhaka Mayor Mohammad Hanif and others were also defeated after fighting with the grenade spinner.

In that attack on that day, more than four hundred Awami League leaders and activists were seriously injured and are still living inhumane lives with splinters on their bodies. Journalists of various print and electronic media were injured. Many leaders and activists are still mourning the death of the grenade spinner of that day. Although many leaders and activists were immediately treated at home and abroad, they could not fully recover until now.

A wreath will be placed at the Shaheed Bedi built in front of the Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue today (Monday) at 11:30 am in memory of those killed in the August 21 grenade attack.

A discussion meeting will be held at 11:15 am to protest the infernal grenade attack of August 21 and commemorate the victims. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over it and will also deliver an important speech.

How to prevent dengue

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral fever. This fever is different from other viral or bacterial fevers. However, this fever is not contagious in any way. This viral fever can occur alone or in combination with other viruses (chikungunya, yellow fever, Burma forest, flu, respiratory syncytial) and bacteria (pneumococcus).

Dengue fever is divided into two categories depending on the severity of symptoms and fever.

1. Common dengue fever

2. Dengue fever with bleeding.

In the case of common dengue fever, the following symptoms are mainly seen-

1. Sudden high fever lasting 2 to 7 days.

2. Severe headache.

3. Pain behind the eyes.

4. Along with the fever, red rash appears all over the body.

5. Severe pain in whole body as well as back pain.

6. Nausea or vomiting.

7. A rash or red bumps on the skin.

In case of dengue fever with bleeding:

1. Bleeding from nose, mouth or vomiting with high fever within 2 to 48 hours.

2. Fluid accumulation in chest or abdomen along with fever.

If any of these symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately.

On the other hand

Wait at home for the first 3 days of fever. On the other hand, sponge the whole body with water every now and then. This will reduce the level of fever. Drink enough water and rest. After that, if the fever does not decrease or if it continues to increase after some time, consult a doctor immediately.

Things to do to prevent Dengue:

1. Try to keep the surroundings of the house as clean as possible.

2. If there are flower tubs or broken plastic bottles, can shells, tires or polythene inside the house, clean them quickly and drain the accumulated water from the flower tubs.

3. Spray or fog at least 3 times a week to kill mosquitoes.

4. You can keep mosquito repellent cream with you while going out.

5. After evening, younger and older members of the household should use mosquito nets.

6. Clean up any accumulated rain water, as this is the time when Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs.

7. On the other hand, you can use mats along with mosquito nets to avoid mosquito infestation.

8. Since Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day, it is important to avoid sleeping with mosquito nets while sleeping during the day. Source: https://dmpnews.org
