Bangladesh is the hat-trick world champion of NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2023

The Dhaka Times Desk Team Voyagers of Bangladesh has become the world champion in the best storytelling category of NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2023. With this, Bangladesh became the world champion three times in a row and for the fourth time in total.

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) organized the Bangladesh phase of this competition for the 10th time.

In this year's competition, 57,999 people from 152 countries in 30 categories from 8,715 teams participated on the basis of different age, background, interest and skills. This is the largest NASA Space Apps Challenge to date.

Among the world's total of 5,556 projects, Bangladesh has showcased unparalleled innovation that has created a unique example of Bangladesh's emerging talent in space exploration.

“Everything Starts with Water” is the theme of the project by Team Voyagers of Barendra University, Rajshahi region. There are 370 quintillion gallons of water in the world, but of this, our usable safe water is only 0.01%. Their mission was to create a visual tool to illustrate the entire flow of water on Earth, helping students understand the flow of water in the Earth's system and how this precious resource is contributing to our climate change.

Md. Khalid Saqib is the team leader of world winning team Voyagers. Besides, the other members of the party are Md Abdul Malek, Md Sakhawat Hossain, Mosa Fahmida Akhtar and Md Atiq. Team leader Md Khalid Shakib said, “From participating virtually to becoming the world champion, this journey was not so easy for us. But now each of us is very proud to present the name of our country in the world court, Alhamdulillah.
