It is to be noted that in 1960, the initial work of Ishwardi Airport started on 412 acres of land. At that time, after the construction of the runway at the cost of 22 lakh taka, Dakota aircraft started operating. During the erstwhile Pakistan era, Ishwardi Airport had two flights every morning and afternoon. After independence it decreased and continued only in the morning. After that an airport was established near Ishwardi as Rajshahi is a divisional city. Due to which the flights are reduced to one day a week. After showing losses, air traffic from Ishwardi was announced to be suspended indefinitely on November 3, 1996. At that time, the number of passengers was less, but there was no loss due to the transportation of a lot of goods, the locals complained.
