In response, the opposition leader said, "Even after listening to the record", it is not possible for him to call off the strike and sit for talks. He said that there will be no discussion before 30th. The opposition leader told Sheikh Hasina, 'If the election is held under the independent caretaker government, you should "step down" (resign), then the strike will be called off.'
Begum Khaleda Zia also said on the phone, 'The Prime Minister has put the people of the police administration and intelligence agencies behind the leaders of the 18-party alliance. They cannot leave the house. It is not possible to bring them together to withdraw the strike. Apart from this, he said in his speech that the discussion and movement will continue together. As a result, it will not be possible to withdraw the strike.
Prime Minister got very little chance to speak in that phone call. The leader of the opposition has spoken very one-sidedly. At one stage he said to Khaleda Zia, 'You are not listening to me.' Regarding the strike, Khaleda Zia reminded the Prime Minister that the Awami League went on strike for 173 days while being in the opposition party. In reply, Prime Minister Khaleda told Zia that during the period of 1996-2001, BNP went on strike for 373 days.
The prime minister accused the opposition party of arson in connection with the violence during the hartal. In reply, Khaleda Zia said that people were killed with gunpowder on the bus on Sheikh Hasina's orders, Biswajit was killed. When Sheikh Hasina mentioned the grenade attack on August 21, Khaleda Zia said that her party did not do this. Hasina also said that those who hacked Biswajit have been arrested, they are expelled from Chhatra League and their family members are involved with BNP-Jamaat.
