Staff Reporter Journalists have threatened to protest if those involved in Sagar-Rooney murder are not arrested. Notably, Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun promised that the killers would be arrested within 48 hours.
If the killers are not arrested, the journalists will go to the movement to demand the resignation of the Home Minister.
This announcement was made in the human chain and rally program organized on the call of Dhaka Journalist Union (DUJ), Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on February 12. Dhaka Reporters Unity, National Press Club, Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), Cameramen Association, ATN Bangla Parivar, TV Camera Journalists Association Bangladesh, News Presenters Society of Bangladesh, News Broadcasters Association of Bangladesh, Rangpur participated in this program at 11 am in front of the National Press Club. Members of various organizations of journalists including the Department Journalist Association and media workers also participated. Shaukat Mahmud, general secretary of BFUJ (Part) said that more than 24 hours of the 48-hour period have already passed. But the killers have not been arrested yet. If the accused are not caught within this period, the journalists will go to the movement to demand the resignation of the Home Minister. We want justice for this brutal murder. President of Dhaka Reporters Unity Sakhawat Hossain Badsha said that if the killers of the journalist couple are not arrested within the stipulated time frame, all organizations of journalists will unite and announce a larger program. DUZ president Omar Farooq said, we demand the arrest of the killers within 48 hours as promised by the home minister. I hope that the killers will be arrested and the mystery of the murder will be revealed as per his promise.
