Apparently, imported hydrogenated 'raw' sugar is being sold freely. And people are suffering from various diseases by eating this sugar. Due to this, 15 sugar mills of the country, including the sugar mills in the northern region, are being seriously affected as domestic sugar remains unsold.
It is known that people are suffering from various diseases after eating 'raw' sugar imported from abroad and various sweets and food products made from it. Basically, 'raw' sugar is supposed to be refined and sold, but a class of unscrupulous traders are selling it directly in the market instead of doing so. And by this, various crises are being created.
As a result of the import of foreign sugar, it is said that only Rajshahi sugar mills now have unsold sugar worth about Tk 50 crore. As a result, the mill has to count losses. Gopalpur North Bengal Sugar Mill also has about Rs 65 crore of unsold sugar and Pabna Sugar mill has Rs 41 crore of unsold sugar.
The officials of different sugar mills of the country think that the lack of interest of the farmers in the sugarcane cultivation is one of the reasons for the loss. Besides, those who are cultivating sugarcane, instead of supplying sugarcane to sugar mills, they produce jaggery themselves illegally. Because jaggery production in the mill area is legally prohibited but the farmers are not obeying it. It is known that many farmers are doing this type of illegal activities in the pursuit of higher profits. Besides, the price of sugar produced by the sugar mills is over-fixed compared to the market, and above all, a class of businessmen has made the situation more critical by destroying the country's market by importing 'raw' sugar at a low price.
The Managing Director of Rajshahi Sugar Mill said that no worker or sugarcane farmer owes anything to the sugar mill. Sugar Corporation (BSFIC) paid Rs 30 crore for the sugar mill this year. All debts are paid from that money.
Meanwhile, Pabna Sugar Mill has Tk 41 crore of unsold sugar. Officials and workers are not getting salary for two months due to non-sale of sugar. According to related sources, since the establishment of Pabna Sugar Mill, the mill administration has been severely affected due to various reasons including foreign debt. On top of that, some traders in the country are making hundreds of crores of rupees by importing and selling undeveloped hydrogenated 'raw' sugar from abroad at a low price for the purpose of harvesting their own sugarcane. This has made it difficult to sell high quality sugar produced in domestic mills. Buyers have unknowingly resorted to buying foreign sugar at lower prices. At the same time, various food manufacturing companies including sweets are also profiting commercially by using foreign sugar. On the other hand, people are suffering from various types of stomach pains by consuming various types of food products including sweets made with sugar. Experts say that eating this sugar for a long time can lead to colon cancer.
It has been said by the conscious circles that patriotism should be created in every people of the country and the use of high-quality domestic sugar should be increased. That group also thinks that just as it does not make gold when it is crushed, foreign sugar is not healthy if it looks too white. Moreover, desi sugar is high quality sugar. This sugar is also sweet.
In this regard, when the office of the managing director of Pabna sugar mill was contacted, it was confirmed that Tk 41 crores of sugar was unsold and 2 months salary was suspended as he was absent.
