There has been extreme tension in the diplomatic relations between the two countries for more than a week over the Devyani incident. On the same day, Indian Foreign Secretary Sujata Singh was also called by the spokesperson of the US State Department, Wendy Sherman. US Ambassador to Delhi Nancy Powell held a long meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India on Friday. But there was no result. India has made it clear that expressing regret will do no good. Apologize and withdraw the case. They will not accept any 'farce'.
However, the US is adamant in its position on the Devyani issue. They have also made it clear that the charges and cases brought against Devyani will not be withdrawn. It should be noted that Debyani (39), the Deputy Consul General of the Indian Consulate in New York, was arrested on December 12 on charges of visa fraud and concealment of information. However, the next day, Devyani got bail with a surety of two and a half million dollars in the Manhattan court. Sangeeta Richard, an Indian woman, was accused of visa fraud when she was brought to the United States as a babysitter and domestic worker. On the other hand, Devyani has denied these allegations brought against him.
