48-hour continuous hartal of 18 groups started amid violence including fire: 1 person killed in Lalmonirhat

The Dhaka Times Desk Today is the fourth day of the blockade of the 18 party alliance led by BNP. Meanwhile, the 48-hour strike called by 18 parties to prevent the election began on the first day today with the burning of various polling stations. 1 person was killed in Lalmonirhat.

A person named Mobarak Hossain (40) was killed in a clash between BNP-Jamaat and Awami League leaders and workers at Shafirhat Bazaar of Baura Union in Patgram Upazila of Lalmonirhat on Saturday around 11 am. The deceased Mubarak is the president of Ward No. 9 volunteers of Baura Union.

However, the strike did not make much impact in the capital. Public transport including minibus, auto, CNG is running normally since morning. However, there have been cases of fire connection in polling stations in different places outside the country. Doubts have arisen about how the polls will be held tomorrow in these places. An official of the Election Commission said that if one center is set on fire, then the votes will be taken in the neighboring center. It will not affect the election. Moreover, the army is working to maintain peace and order in the elections.

Meanwhile, violence has taken place in different parts of the country like yesterday. Law enforcement agencies are well prepared to control the situation. Polling will be held tomorrow in 147 constituencies of the country. Candidates for 153 seats were elected unopposed.

It should be noted that the 10th National Assembly election of the country is tomorrow, January 5. BNP-led 18 party coalition and several other small parties of the country have boycotted this election. The opposition coalition has called on the public to boycott the election.
