The 10th National Assembly election started at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm. Meanwhile, despite the peaceful polling in the capital, Dhaka, there were reports of widespread violence in various parts of the country outside Dhaka. 12 people have been killed so far.
2 people were killed yesterday and 10 people have been killed since this morning. 2 people died in Rangpur in the morning. 2 people died in Nilphamari, 2 people in Dinajpur, 2 people in Feni and 1 more in Lakshmipur. Also, an Assistant Presiding Officer died in Thakurgaon yesterday due to election violence. And a presiding officer died in a road accident. A person who was injured in Gazipur last night died today in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College.
Meanwhile, elections are going on in different parts of the country. However, as the day progresses, the voter turnout also increases. A few polling stations in the capital Dhaka can be seen. Although the number of people is less, people are voting. A few polling stations in Bhashantech area of the capital saw attendance around 1 pm. People are voting in relatively small numbers. No untoward incident occurred in these areas. Army and border guards were seen patrolling.
On the other hand, 10 independent candidates boycotted the election. It is reported that they have boycotted this election due to the government party candidates being kicked out from the centre.
