Representative from Ishwardi Pakshi Lalon Shah Setu Highway hard solder electric poles installed. Due to this, the traffic on this road has become dangerous and it is feared that a major accident may happen at any time.
Allegedly, this Pakshi Lalon Shah Bridge is identified as the gateway of North Bengal and South Bengal and a very important structure. But this dangerous work has been done by installing hard solder without taking the permission of Pabna Roads and Highways Department and without any discussion with them. Not only that, an official of the Pabna Roads and Public Roads Department was also physically assaulted while obstructing the work of the Power Development Board's installation of hard soldered poles without permission. Tension is going on in two sections about this. It is reported that the Power Development Board has taken up a project named Urban from Alhaj intersection of Ishwardi-Pakshi road to EPZ to extend a new electric line in Pakshi EPZ of Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna. Of this extended line, three kilometers of Lalon Shah Bridge link road has fallen. Swapan Traders of Ishwardi of Pabna got the job of extension of electric line when tenders were called for implementation of the project. After getting the work, the concerned contractor installed the electric poles on the hard solder of Pakshi Lalon Shah Setu Highway on the Roads and Highways Department site without any communication. Requesting the removal of the poles installed at that time within seven days, Khaled Shahed, Executive Engineer, Roads and Public Ways Department, Pabna, and Shafiqul Huda, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Roads Sub-Division-2, Pabna, sent 3 consecutive letters to the Power Development Board's Urban Project Project Director, Rajshahi Office. Later, Executive Engineer of Urban Project Jahangir Alam and Executive Engineer of Pabna Sewage Department along with related officials visited the area on site. Engineers and officials of both departments unanimously agreed and the project manager of Beaubo directed the concerned contractor to remove the electric pole from the hard solder of the road and place it at a safe distance. But still the concerned contractor continued to hard solder the poles on the highway. On the afternoon of last July 4, Sub-Assistant of Road Sub-Division-2, Mizanur Rahman, went to check whether the poles had been removed from the hard solder of the highway, when he was attacked by the employees engaged in the installation of electric poles led by the contractor and a group of terrorists. Deputy Assistant Mizanur Rahman was seriously injured in this attack. Later the locals rescued him and admitted him to Pabna Medical College Hospital. Deputy Assistant Mizanur Rahman said that after the incident, when he went to Ishwardi police station to file a case, the officer in charge of the police station did not accept the case and treated him disrespectfully. Later on July 5, Mizanur Rahman filed a case in Ishwardi Police Station accusing Swapan, the owner of Swapan Traders, as the plaintiff.
When contacted, Sub-Divisional Engineer of Urban Project, Khandaker Abu Hanif, said that the design of construction of this line was given from their Dhaka office. Work is being done accordingly. He admitted that the poles are being hard soldered at dangerous places on the road without the permission of the road department. But it is a small amount. Later we will remove. Talked to the Executive Engineers of Roads and Public Ways Department Pabna in this regard. Khaled Shahed, Executive Engineer of Pabna Roads and Highways Department, said that installing electric poles on the hard solder of Pakshi Lalon Shah Setu Highway without taking the permission of the Roads and Highways Department is completely illegal. Placing poles on hard solder will damage the hard solder of the road. On the other hand, there is a possibility of heavy damage to vehicles along with accidents on the road. He also said that plans have already been taken to upgrade this important road to four lanes by joining the north and south sections. But due to the installation of electric poles on the hard line of the road, these poles have to be lifted and installed again when it is upgraded to 4 lanes. Vehicles will run very dangerously. On the other hand, huge amount of money will be wasted later.
Concerned people think that measures should be taken on an urgent basis in view of the matter.
