RAB arrested Habibur Rahman Habib alias Sohel Rana and his accomplice Idris Mia from the Shyampur area of the capital on Tuesday afternoon in connection with the theft of money from Sonali Bank. After the arrest, they were produced at the RAB office in Uttara of the capital.

Director General of RAB Mokhlesur Rahman said that the officials of that bank are related to the robbery of money in Sonali Bank. He said this in a press conference after counting the recovered money at the RAB headquarters on Tuesday evening. According to RAB, 16 crore 19 lakh 56 thousand 64 taka have been recovered.

Habib also told RAB that he used to work as a construction worker in Dubai. Returning home, his maternal uncle lends 5 lakhs to Siraj. Siraj was unable to repay the money and advised Habib to loot the money from the vault of Sonali Bank in Kishoreganj. Two years ago, he rented a tin shed house next to the main branch of Sonali Bank in Kishoreganj for the purpose of stealing money. The rent of the house was two and a half thousand rupees.

Habib also said that it took one and a half years to cut the tunnel. One day he made a road to reach inside Sonali Bank. Entering the bank through the tunnel, he found a cupboard. He removed the shelves with a shawl and entered the bank. He entered the bank and saw money piled on the table. After seeing that, he went back home through the tunnel. This was the case on Friday. He returned home and went out to eat and drink. After eating and drinking, he entered the bank through that tunnel again around 10 o'clock at night with seven or eight sacks which he kept in the room. They crawled together two by two, then four and finally brought home a total of five sacks of rupees. Then he separated 1000 and 500 taka notes. Fill 3 bags with 1000 rupee notes and 2 bags with 500 rupee notes. One Saturday dawned when the sack was filled with notes. In the morning he went to a rice shop near the house. After talking there, he returned home. Again bought 230 sacks of rice from that rice shop and another shop nearby. Then he hired a truck to come to Dhaka for 12 thousand taka. The sacks of money are placed first i.e. down and the sacks of rice are kept on top of it. The driver's assistant helped Habib to load the bags of rice and money onto the truck. On the way, the truck punctured at Narsingdi. The driver's assistant already noticed that there was a large amount of money in the bag. For this, Habib gave him 7 lakh taka (500 taka 14 bundles) to shut the driver's mouth.

Habib said that after coming to Shyampur area of Dhaka, he started looking for a home. Fortunately, he rented a 6-storey house in Shyampur Balurghat area for eight and a half thousand taka. He went home with eight sacks of rice and five sacks of money. On the advice of father-in-law, uncle sent the rest of the rice to an oars in Atarshi. Keep sacks of rice in one room and money in another room. Then the other uncle informed Idris last Sunday. Habib also said that Idris has been with him since Sunday.

In the press conference, RAB said that Habibur Rahman Habib rented the house in the name of Sohel. Sonali Bank DMD Mostafizur Rahman, present at the press conference, thanked RAB and media workers for the recovery of the looted money. He said that an investigation committee has been formed in this incident. The committee will submit the inquiry report within five days.
