Long wait of ten years: Verdict in ten truck weapons case today

Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Special Tribunal-1 Judge SM Mojibur Rahman will announce the verdict of this case. In this sensational incident, two cases were registered under Arms Act and Smuggling Act. It is said that the judgment may be announced in both the cases today.

Akbar Ali, Badsha Mia, Osman Mistry, Abdul Mannan, Kabir Ahmed, Md. Rafiq, Manjurul Alam, Monir Ahmed, Abdul Khalek, Pradeep Kumar Das, Noor Nabi, Babul Mia, Saleh Zahoor, Abdur Rahim Majhi, Md. Shahjahan, Abdus Sobhan, Abdus Sabur, Shah Alam, Sirajul Islam, Helal Uddin, Firoz Ahmed, Saifuddin, Kamal Miah, Ex-NSI Field Officer Akbar Hussain, Ex-Director (Security) NSI Wing Commander (Retd) Sahabuddin, Ex-Director General (NSI) Abdur Rahim, Former Director General of NSI Major General (Retd) Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury, Former NSI Deputy Director (Technical) Major (Retd) Liaquat Hossain, Former MD of CUFL Mohsin Uddin Talukder, Former GM (Administration) of CUFL KM Enamul Haque, former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar, ULFA military commander Paresh Barua, former Additional Industries Secretary Nurul Amin, former Industries Minister and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Matiur Rahman Nizami, Safiqur Rahman and Abul Hossain.

11 accused have been arrested in both the cases and are in jail. They are - Motiur Rahman Nizami, Lutfuzzaman Babar, Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury, Abdur Rahim, Shahabuddin, Liakat Hossain, Mohsin Uddin Talukder, Akbar Hossain Khan, KM Enamul Haque, Hafizur Rahman and Din Mohammad.

The 12 absconding accused are Nurul Amin, Paresh Barua, Mohammad Sirajul Islam, Helal Uddin, Abdur Rahim Majhi, Mohammad Sabur, Mohammad Shajahan, Shah Alam, Haji Sobhan, Pradeep Kumar Das, Babul Mia and Noor Nabi.

After the witness-examination was over on January 13, the court fixed January 30 as the date for announcing the verdict. After 10 years of the incident, common people are eagerly waiting to hear the verdict of 10 truck weapons case.

It is to be noted that on the night of April 1, 2004, 10 trucks of weapons and ammunition were seized from the JT Ghat of Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL).
