On August 2, this unpleasant incident took place in a meeting of the labor leaders regarding the distribution of recruitment and trade money. It is known that sugar mill has done two crore recruitment business this time. A number of angry labor leaders of the workers' union and those who have lost their jobs even with money said that on August 1, 78 people were given appointment letters in various positions at Pabna Sugar Mill. They said that for each position, bribes of 2 to 3 lakh taka per person are taken. They also alleged that according to the unwritten rules a portion of the bribe trade was to be distributed among the members of the workers' union according to rank. The recruitment process ends on August 1. The next day, when the leaders of the workers union sat in the union office on this matter, the president Md Ibrahim Hossain and the general secretary Ashrafuzzaman Ujjwal and the rest of the 16 leaders quarreled and it turned into a ruckus. At that time the angry 16 leaders got together and vandalized the chair-table of the office of the President/Editor of Sugar Mill Workers Union. At one point, the president Ibrahim Hossain and the general secretary Ashrafuzzaman Ujjal were thrown out of the union office and the angry labor leaders locked the office.
Ramzan Ali, Office Secretary of Pabna Sugar Mills Workers Union, said, 'In this appointment, their executive committee demanded that the son of the vice-president of the workers union and Bhajita of the joint secretary should be given the job. But although the president and editor agreed at first, they sold that job after getting more money elsewhere by being dishonest with us.'
An influential leader of Pabna Sugar Mill's Sramik League said that this time the administration of the mill and the CBA president and secretary have traded the recruitment of about two crore taka in the name of giving jobs. A large part of which has been divided between several leaders of the ruling party. As a part of this, Ashrafuzzaman, the general secretary of workers union, took a huge sum of money from Mirajul, the son of a tea shopkeeper of Mill Gate area, and did not give him a job. And because of this, Mirazul was lying on the street after taking Sidoxin to commit suicide. After receiving the information, the doctors of the sugar mill rescued him and admitted him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex with first aid.
According to sources, two other youths named Ayanal and Ibrahim tried to commit suicide by drinking poison after not getting a job even with money.
General Secretary of Pabna Sugar Mills Workers Union Ashrafuzzaman Ujjal said that he did not take money from anyone for recruitment. And because two people of our committee did not get a job in this appointment, they were unhappy and shouted. However, he also said that he did not know anything about taking poison.
