That rare picture of Rana Plaza won the World Photography Award

The Dhaka Times Desk A rare photograph of Savar's Rana Plaza during the commemoration has won an award at the World Photography Competition.

Photos of the humanitarian disaster after the Rana Plaza building collapse have made it to the World Press Photo Competition, the world's largest photography agency. Two Bangladeshi photographers have won the press photo award by taking rare pictures of the terrible disaster. Taslima Akhtar, an active activist of the women's movement of Bangladesh, came third in the news-based list in the press photo competition as the first woman photographer among these two people. On the other hand, another photojournalist, Rahul Talukder, came third in the photo story category in the same list. The International Jury Board announced the results of World Press Photo-2014 in Amsterdam.

It is to be noted that both the awardees received this award for taking photos of the humanitarian disaster after the collapse of the Rana Plaza building on April 24 last year. The title or caption of Taslima's prize-winning photo, a teacher at Pathshala Institute of Photography, was - Final Embrace. The film appeared in Time magazine's list of the top ten films of 2013. The picture shows an unprecedented scene of a male and female laborer hugging each other buried under the rubble during the rescue operation at the collapsed Rana Plaza.
