The Dhaka Times Desk The elections of 97 upazilas held in the first phase of the country were held peacefully except for some unpleasant incidents. BNP is ahead in this election so far. BNP got 40, Awami League 36, Jamaat-e-Islami 12 and other parties got 8.
Out of 97 out of 94 private results in this election, BNP-backed candidates have won 40 of them. 36 candidates supported by the ruling Awami League have won. And BNP's partner party Jamaat has won 12.

Independent candidates have won in Maksudpur, Khagrachari Sadar and Taraganj in Rangpur in Gopalganj.
It should be noted that among these 6 upazilas are supported by BNP and in 1 upazila the rebel candidate of Awami League has announced to boycott the election.
