The Dhaka Times Desk In their first match of the Asia Cup, the top order batsmen of Bangladesh lost the toss and went to bat. India topped it with 6 wickets in hand when they set a target of 280 runs.
Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field against Bangladesh at the Khan Sahib Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. Anamul Haque Vijay came to start Bangladesh's innings due to Tamim Iqbal's injury. However, two other batsmen, Shamsur Rahman and Mominul, quickly returned home, Anamul Haque Vijay brought the team on a solid footing along with captain Musfiq. The two men put together an excellent partnership of 133 runs for the third wicket. This is Bangladesh's highest run partnership for any wicket against India.
Anamul Haque Vijay hit 5 fours and 3 sixes in a responsible innings of 77 runs off 106 balls and returned home in the evening after being bowled by Indian pacer Barun Aaron.
Naeem Islam (13) and Nasir Hossain (1) got out quickly after Anamul went back, and Bangladesh's run collection slowed down a bit. But Ziaur responded well with Musfiq at the end. In between, Mushfiq played an excellent innings of 117 runs. His innings of 113 balls was rich with 7 fours and 2 sixes. This is Musfiq's first century at home and second career century. Before the century, however, Varun Aaron was banned for the innings after hitting Bima in the ribs of Musfiq.
With 7 balls left in the innings, Zia scored 18 runs off 12 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. At the end of 50 overs, Bangladesh scored 279 runs for 7 wickets with Mushfiqur Rahim's century. Indian bowler Sami took 4 wickets for 50 runs.
In response, the Bangladeshi bowlers returned the two Indian openers with the bat before they became dangerous. Shikhar Dhawan for 28 was caught lbw by Abdur Razzaq. And Ziaur Rahman sent another opener Rohit Sharma back to the dressing room for 21 runs.
Meanwhile, Indian captain Virat Kohli hit the 19th century of his career to give the team a great victory. India won their first Asia Cup match with 6 balls and 6 wickets in hand. Virat Kohli, along with Ajinkya Rahane formed a huge partnership of 213 runs. Basically, this huge pair of these two knocked Bangladesh out of the match. Ajinkya Rahane played an innings of 73 runs off 83 balls with 7 fours and 1 six. Sohag Gazi dismissed Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli scored 136 runs off just 122 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes and was bowled by Rubel Hossain.
