On Monday, two of the world's leading cement companies, Lafarge and Holcim, announced the merger in a joint statement. Lafarge and Holcim are expected to combine to create a cement marketing network worth US$ 440 million worldwide. The main objective of the merged entity will be to increase the amount of profit achieved by reducing the risk. Moreover, both parties expect to save at least 1.4 billion euros a year through the merger. International news agency Reuters reported this.
Lafarge is the world's largest cement producer based in Paris, France. This company has a world-class reputation. Lafarge has operations in around 64 countries around the world including Bangladesh. Holcim, on the other hand, is one of the world's most renowned manufacturers based in Switzerland. The company has commercial operations in at least 70 countries around the world, including Bangladesh. Both these companies hold their market in Bangladesh.
It should be noted that according to consensus - Holcim will buy the ownership of Lafarge. In return, Lafarge shareholders will own one Holcim share for each share. Holcim head Wolfgang Reizel will take over as chairman of Lafarge-Holcim, and Lafarge chief Bruno Lafont will serve as chief executive of the combined entity. The merged Lafarge-Holcim headquarters will be established in Geneva. On the other hand, the company will be listed in the capital markets of France and Switzerland.
