The court announced this verdict last Thursday around 8 other people including the child. As a result, there is a storm of strong condemnation all over Pakistan.
Pakistan's Express Tribune says the court ruled that the police wanted to kill the police by pelting stones during a police raid in Lahore. These slum dwellers in Lahore were not paying gas and electricity bills. As a result, the police cut off their electricity and gas connections through raids. According to the court's verdict, some residents, enraged by this action of the authorities, threw stones at the police and attempted to kill them. As a result of which the court found them guilty in the murder case.
Video footage shown at the hearing showed the nine-month-old baby sitting with his grandfather during the collision. Judge Rafayat Ali's court also found him guilty and declared him involved in the clash. Chowdhury Irfan Sadiq who is fighting the case in court on behalf of the child's family. In a statement to AFP, he said the court should close the case now. Because according to the Pakistani law, the minimum age of the criminal in the case of crime is 12 years. Civil society in that country strongly condemned the ridiculous verdict of the Pakistani court's criminal justice system. It is also widely reported in the international media. Especially the picture of the child crying while taking the hand impression caught everyone's attention.
Sadiq also said, "The court should acquit this child from this case because he is not in the list of criminals. Also, this verdict will lead to misidentification of criminals by the police and increase in extrajudicial killings”. Meanwhile, police officer Kashif Mahmood, who filed the murder case with the child, has been suspended. The child's father who was arrested also said, “The police wrongly framed the case around his children and them. They are all victims”.
According to the latest reports, Judge Rafayat Ali acquitted the child from the case as per the order of the High Court. During the second day of court hearing last Saturday, the police informed the judge that the child is no longer involved in the case. The child's grandfather and his father were not exempted from the case. The prosecution said they were with the rioters during the encounter. But the child's father and grandfather said they only wanted to protect their land from land grabbers.
