The Dhaka Times Desk Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Government of Bangladesh (BTRC) has said that they are trying to ensure the safety of users on Facebook. From now on, if someone threatens, runs obscene pages or harasses a user on Facebook, legal action will be taken within 24 hours based on the complaint.
If a citizen of Bangladesh runs a fake Facebook page on Facebook, uploads obscene pictures on his ID or page, or does immoral things including trying to denigrate a person or religion, BTRC will seriously investigate the complaint. According to official sources, various anti-social activities are being conducted on social media Facebook. Which is being done with the intention of degrading the country and individual. As a result, the government will show zero tolerance for strict and swift complaint-based action in this regard.
BTRC Director (Media) Sarwar Alam said, “The commission takes procedural measures against harassment, fake page and obscenity on Facebook. Action is taken within 24 hours if someone files a complaint with evidence."
He further said, “BTRC directly informs the Facebook authorities first to shut down that page or ID in view of the relevant complaint. Then the committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Telecom Monitoring Center under the Ministry of Defense were informed in this regard to take legal action."
If any threatening or provocative message against the state, religion or person is given on Facebook from any ID, it is urged to call and complain to BTRC as soon as possible. Action will be taken within 24 hours of receiving the complaint. And on the basis of proving the truth of the crime, the criminal will be brought under the law within 3 days with evidence.
