The Dhaka Times Desk Can this be thought of in our country? But there is no traffic police in a Chinese city! The whole city is running without traffic police. No accidents, no traffic jams - Neaten Clean City!
The city of the flyover is Guangzhou, a provincial city in China. Every major road in the city has flyovers. There are flyovers upon flyovers. Guangzhou city has been de-congested with two and three-story flyovers. In addition to flyovers, Guangzhou has subways, tunnels under mountains. Traffic police will not be seen anywhere. However, closed circuit (CC) cameras are installed at intersections to monitor traffic. You have to drive on the right side in all the streets of this city.
All types of vehicles ply on the streets of this city. Relatively low speed vehicles do not or cannot climb the flyover. Bicycles, battery-powered bicycles or battery-powered three-wheelers ply the streets below. If you go to the city of Guangzhou, you will not see any rickshaws or any such vehicles except bicycles.
Despite being a communist country, the predominance of foreign cars in the city of Guangzhou is noticeable. Domestic cars are rarely seen. Cars like BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Volkswagen are the most popular vehicles there. Not all of them are imported from abroad. Many of these brands' cars are made in China. Famous car companies set up factories in China to capture Chinese cheap technology, cheap labor, and the market of one and a half billion people. Cars are exported from here to Europe-America. These cars are also being sold in the domestic market. Apart from these, there are self-made luxury buses. No bus can be seen without AC.
Buses also carry standing passengers outside the seats. But it is not like Dhaka city. Big buses carry standing passengers but never more than 10-12 people are seen standing.
Even if there is no traffic jam, Guangzhou city has an intersection similar to Dhaka city. No traffic police was seen at any intersection. If the red light is on, the cars are stopped. When the green light comes on, the cars start moving again on their own. It is also seen that no one breaks the law even if there is no car in front, right or left during red light.
To board the flyover, you need to have money in your pocket. Because one cannot travel on any flyover without money. Once on the flyover, toll collection booths are installed on the road below where you have to get down to your destination. No one can leave without paying the toll. Of course, all those who use the flyover come out with money in their pockets.
Flyovers are often taller than five-story buildings. Where it is necessary to go higher than this, it is fenced with tin so that the lower side cannot be seen from above. Where the flyover passes by the side of the residential building, there is also a fence like this.
But think about our country? Every road in the capital city of Dhaka, be it VIP or ordinary road, there is no road without traffic jam. And traffic police! What would have happened if there were no traffic police in the race to break the law with dozens of them present?
