Paharpur is a historical place

Paharpur is one of the historical places of Bangladesh. It is located within Naogaon district.

From the beginning of the 9th century some foreign kings began to erase that history. It became a reality again when the rule of the Sena dynasty began in the 12th century. The face of world famous Sompur Bihar of Pala dynasty started to disappear from history. During the rule of the Pala Dynasty, there were repeated attacks and during the Bengal rule of the Sen Dynasty, Bengali soldiers tried to burn this Bihar. Since then the monks here started leaving. The world famous Sompur Bihar was abandoned during the rule of the Sen dynasty. The dust-sand brought by the monsoonal wind that accumulates over this Vihar for ages has covered the Vihar with a huge mountain.

From 1923-1934, the then British rulers started excavations and brought Paharpur Buddhist Vihara under Badalgachi upazila of Naogaon district to the forefront of history. Which is famous not only in Bangladesh but also in the world as a historical landmark. Paharpur Buddhist Vihara is a huge attraction for thousands of tourists from home and abroad.
