It is known that the Buddhists are not going out unless necessary due to the fear of vandalism. Many people cannot even go to work. Students have also stopped going to schools and colleges. Due to not being able to work, the families of day laborers are in extreme financial trouble. Ever since the news of the Prime Minister's arrival, some relief has returned to the Buddhist community. The Prime Minister said in a public meeting there that the criminals will not be spared. They will be punished exemplary. He said that the government will provide all possible assistance to the victims. Meanwhile, on the occasion of the Prime Minister's visit, the local administration announced a two-day holiday yesterday and today in all educational institutions of the upazila.

It is to be noted that miscreants set fire to 12 Buddhist temples in the upazila on the late night of September 29, accusing them of insulting the Holy Quran. At this time, an attack was also carried out on Bodhpalli next to the temple. The following day, violent incidents also occurred in Ukhia-Teknaf. The police have so far arrested 203 people in 16 cases in these incidents. Among them, 40 are said to be BNP and Jamaat-Shibir workers. However, as the leaders of the attack have not yet been arrested, fear remains among the people, said local leaders of the Buddhist community. They said that although Muslims and Buddhists live in harmony here, the local administration has shown utter failure to control the barbaric attacks carried out by some extremists late at night. Some officials cooperated with the attackers. The intelligence agencies also showed irresponsibility by not informing the administration about the planned attack. It has also been alleged that some quarters fueled the attack.

In this regard, the Minister of Home Affairs. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir said that those involved in the Ramu attack will not be spared.

Superintendent of Police of Cox's Bazar said that the 203 arrested are the real accused and they are directly involved in the attack. Many were arrested on the spot. He said whether the law and order forces failed to fulfill their duty during the attack will be proved in the report of the inquiry committee. Currently, security has been beefed up in Ramu. Superintendent of Police said that the situation is normal.

62 people remanded. Driver's confession

Cox's Bazar representative Ahmad Ghiyas said that the court granted remand for different periods against 105 people in eight cases among those arrested in connection with the attacks on Buddhist temples and villages. Out of this, 62 people have been remanded so far. 11 people were remanded last yesterday. Ramzan Ali, the driver of a truck used on the night of the incident, gave a confession under section 164 in the court yesterday after being questioned on remand.
