Sale of pre-activated SIM is discontinued
The sale of pre-activated mobile phone SIM has been stopped since last Friday. From Friday onwards, the SIM will be activated only after confirming the information provided by the customer at the time of purchase. Meanwhile, BTRC has provided an alternative to the High Court's ruling that National Identity Card cannot be made mandatory while buying a mobile phone SIM. They say SIM can be bought with any photo ID. But retailers cannot sell it. The concerned mobile phone should be taken from the customer center. And to buy a SIM from a retailer, you must have a national identity card. But this method is termed as difficult by mobile operators. Lately BTRC Director of System and Service Department Lt. It is said that SIM or RIM can be purchased from any operator's customer center by submitting passport, driving license, office photo ID. And the retailer must sell the SIM with the national identity card. The concerned operator will activate the SIM after checking the information given by the customer. If a retailer does not follow the instructions, the concerned operator will also have to file a case against him. These things have been said by BTRC through advertisements in newspapers for the past few days. Recently, a letter has been written to the BTRC from the intelligence agency, saying that all the numbers that the intelligence agency has taken from the registration form in the last 6 months are fake. He said, it is not only necessary to register people, if they are sincere, half of the fake registrations will be fixed. So he requested the operators to be sincere in this matter for the sake of the country. Acting Chairman of BTRC Ghiyas Uddin said in this context, if any SIM registration is based on wrong information, the operators will have to take responsibility for it. For this they have to face punishment according to law. He said, in view of the order of the High Court, National Identity Card is not being made compulsory. However, retailers will not be able to sell SIMs without a national identity card. Only the customer center of the concerned operator can sell SIM with any photo ID. And the concerned operator has to confirm that.
It should be noted that there is a provision to fine operators $50 for each unregistered SIM. Already, all the operators have been fined huge sums of money for using unregistered SIMs for illegal VoIP. On the other hand, the operators say that they will collect all the documents from the customers following the instructions of BTRC.
