The number of internet users in the country is currently around three quarter crore. And the number of mobile phone users has doubled in the last four years. Internationally renowned companies like Samsung, Google, Cisco are opening their offices in Bangladesh. Computer labs have been started in more than three thousand educational institutions of the country. Setting up multimedia classrooms in 20,000 educational institutions is underway. All this is a sign of our progress. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Mostafa Farooq Mohammad gave this information at a press conference organized at the Bangladesh Computer Council Auditorium recently on the occasion of the International Technology Conference 'Digital World 2012'.
The minister said that the government has taken the initiative of organizing 'Digital World 2012' at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center to highlight the various activities of Digital Bangladesh at the international level. The conference will start on December 6 and continue till December 8 with the theme 'Knowledge for Prosperity'. More than 100 organizations based on information and communication technology will show their activities.
Munir Hasan, senior consultant of 'Digital World 2012', said that IT experts from home and abroad will participate in various seminars and workshops held at the conference. There are entrepreneurship conferences, certification courses and entrepreneurship fairs. The first day of the conference will be 'Digital Entrepreneur Conference', more than 1000 entrepreneurs will participate in it. A 'Cloud Camp' has been organized for the first time in Bangladesh on December 7, in which theoretical and practical aspects of cloud computing will be discussed. On the same day there will be a day-long freelancing conference. International IT professionals and top officials of various organizations related to freelancing will participate in this conference along with domestic freelancers. There are 'Take Back the Tech', 'Meet the Leaders', 'Children's Digital World' events. Apart from this, various projects invented by students of different universities, robots and games made in the country will be displayed. Visitors will get free entry to the conference.
