Killer robots are going to be used as weapons in the battlefield

The Dhaka Times Desk The makers of the killer robots are set to face informal debate meetings at the UN's Geneva office in the coming months. Two robot experts Professor Ronald Arkin and Professor Noel Sharkey will discuss the need and effectiveness of killer robots in this debate.

The meeting was organized as CCW or Certain Conventional Weapons at the United Nations Conference Center in Geneva. According to the BBC report, this meeting may be held in November this year. The meeting, if held, would be the first meeting on killer robots to discuss lethal autonomous weapon systems. The future of the killer robot will be determined through this meeting. Killer Robot is the second version of the autonomous mechanized weapon system before the first version was drone management. As the killer robot is spontaneous, it will wipe out its target without any hesitation when attacking the battlefield, even if the targeted object is a human. Such robots do not currently exist but with the increasing development of technology, we may see such robots in the near future. In an interview with the BBC, Professor Sharkey said that killer robots are not guaranteed to comply with the International Law of War, but only presumptively. But according to this principle, the robots would create a double standard among themselves because their kill function as killer robots would then become useless. So the use of killer robots will result in horrific killings. Professor Sharkey is the founder and member of an anti-killer robot organization. He is also the President of International Robot Arms Control. He has been protesting against killer robots for a long time.

But on the other hand, Professor Arkin of the University of Georgia in the United States said in another interview given to the BBC that the use of killer robots will reduce the use of humans in war. Many lives will be saved as a result. Human participation in the battlefield has to face many problems but robots do not have to face such problems. He said research is underway to prevent humans from being harmed by robots and he hopes the research will be successful. As a result, there will be a fruitful solution to the issue of humanity in the battlefield. Professor Sharkey said, now is not the time to fall back. Now we should move on to using robots in the battlefield.

Drones are not relevant to this discussion. Drones were not discussed at the UN meeting held in November, but with drones we begin the journey to a future self-propelled missile system. Intelligence activities and warfare are currently regulated in many countries by this system. The United Kingdom and the United States have already entered the realm of drones. Their Taranis drone and the US-made DARPA or Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency have been able to develop some kind of unmanned drone. International human rights organizations have already started a movement against this killer robot. Although earlier they had protested against the use of drones in the battlefield but it did not bear fruit.
