All these adulterated foods are seriously harming our body and health. This information has emerged in various surveys of Mohakhali Public Health Institute, Dhaka City Corporation and Mobile Court.
According to the information of Mohakhali Public Health, about 54 percent of the food products marketed in the country are adulterated and they are very harmful to the body. But Dhaka City Corporation's survey says that this amount of adulteration is more. According to them, 79 percent of all these food products marketed are adulterated. Meanwhile, the various laboratories of the mobile court have seen that about 98 percent of the food products contain a mixture of different types of chemical toxic substances. According to the mobile court, it is not possible to eliminate the adulteration of these consumer food products despite the anti-adulteration campaign.
Milk and fish are mixed with formalin to preserve corpses, toxic chemicals are used to ripen fruits. Soybean oil is mostly made from palm oil used to make soap, toxic chemical dyes are used in bakery and sweets. Chanachur and jillapi are fried with burnt mobil, murid is fried with urea fertilizer which makes the murid look puffy and white. Various fruits are sprayed with chemicals, which do not rot even after months. Various expeditions of mobile courts have found evidence of such toxic chemicals and dye combinations.
According to the Environmental Protection Movement, about three lakh people are affected by cancer every year due to these adulterated food products, one and a half lakh people are affected by diabetes and about two lakh people suffer from kidney related diseases. About 1.5 million children are born with disabilities due to the consumption of these foods by pregnant mothers. Some unscrupulous businessmen are spreading these adulterated food products all over the country by forming syndicates in the hope of profit. But due to proper monitoring and patronage of local food offices of the Ministry of Food, it is not possible to take effective action against the traders of these adulterated products.
The most interesting thing is that most of the food products that parents are buying to meet the needs of their children are adulterated. A class of unscrupulous traders are mixing toxic chemical dyes for clothes, brick and wood powder, motor pulses and semolina etc. in various baby foods including ice cream, juice, chocolate and pickles for more profit. This list also includes inferior colors, soda, saccharin, beeswax, flour, perfume, talcum powder, rotten plum, tamarind, mango, mango, sugar etc.
Health experts say that consumers are not only being cheated by buying these adulterated food products, but they are also facing serious health risks. Because all these chemicals are responsible for causing cancer, kidney and liver diseases. If the government does not take effective measures to eliminate these adulterated food products and against the dishonest traders, there is a possibility of a big risk in the country's health problems, according to the health security related circles.
