The Dhaka Times Desk In our village Bengal, there are some legends that wives sit by the pond at night and eat fish or catch them in their sleep. Not only our country but many people have immense faith in such unearthly character in different countries. In the fairy tales of many such countries, there are characters who are still in doubt whether they are real or not.
1) Lock Ness Monster (Scotland)
The first mention of this animal in Scotland dates back to the sixth century. An Irish missionary found a seriously injured man. The injured man died in a claw-to-death struggle. Before dying, he told the missionary that a huge lock or snake in the lake had injured him. Since then this unknown monster is called the Lock Ness Monster. Then about 1400 years passed and there was no more talk about this Lock Ness Monster. But in the 1930s people became curious about it again when a couple claimed to have seen it. Locals call it “Nessie”. A photograph of it was taken in 1934, but later proved to be a fake. In 1969, submarines searched the bottom of Loch Ness but found nothing.
2) Chupacabra (Puerto Rico)
Chupacabra literally means goat's bloodsucker. It was first reported in Puerto Rico, Mexico in 1995. Here eight goats were found dead and completely anemic. Then it was known in Texas, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi and even Borneo and Vietnam. Conspiracy theorists say that NASA uses hybrid animals instead of humans on various missions to test whether they can survive. Later, if they are not sent into space, they are released in the deep forests of different countries. At first it was said that it is an animal that walks like a human being. But now it is considered as quadruped. But the scientists came to the conclusion that these are actually a type of animal called desert coyote which has lost all its body hair due to some kind of disease.
3) Popo Bawa (Tanzania)
Popo Bawa means bat fan in Swahili. Popo Bawa is said to transform from bat to human at night and attack sleeping humans. In our country it is called dumbing down. It was believed that Popo Bawa only attacked people who were safe indoors. Relying on this belief, many people start sleeping outside the house to escape from Popo Bawa. According to researchers, there is no such thing as Popo Bawa. A sleeping person sees such strange things when the abnormal position of the neck during sleep interferes with the flow of oxygen to the brain.
5) Fairy (Europe)
Europeans have a strong belief in fairies. They believe that disturbing the fairies will bring curses and great harm. The story of this fairy begins from the Arabic Rajni. This Arabic poem was composed in Baghdad in the 8th century, and later it passed through many hands and reached Europe. From then on, the fairy tale begins. In 1917 two relatives, Elsie Wright and Frances Griffith, claimed to have photographed the fairies. Later they themselves admit that the middle four of the five pictures are fakes, but the picture number five is actually a picture of a fairy.
6) Mokole Bembe (Congo)
There are many rumors about this sauropod dinosaur-like creature. So far, more than 50 expeditions have been conducted to find out about this creature, but nothing has been found. However, about 80 percent of Congo's Likuala area, where it is found, is still unexplored. So this beast may exist in reality. During World War I, European merchant mariners took an alternative route to the Indian Ocean, crossing the Likulia River in the Congo. Later this alternative trade route was canceled when many faced dire conditions while coming this way. Word of Mokole Bembe spread through these ships, victims of terrible conditions.
