The man's name is Sanjay Mitra from Kolkata.
BBC Bengali A report disclosed this information and said that Sanjay Mitra is the son of a family whose house has been performing Durga Puja for 125 years. He sees the destruction of the Babri Masjid as the monogamy of a majority religion.
Sanjay Mitra told the media about fasting, 'I eat Iftar at home most of the time. But sometimes I go to the shop outside the house and break the fast.
Sanjay Mitra also said, 'I have been breaking Iftar for the last 21 years, sometimes eating fruit or bread at home, and sometimes eating Haleem.'
Sanjay Mitra said, 'After the destruction of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, I started fasting in the month of Ramadan as a protest.'
Sanjay Mitra also said, 'The Babri Masjid was destroyed on December 6, 1992. I was living in Delhi then. There were many riots after the incident in North India as well. At that time I felt very helpless as a Hindu. Being a majority religious person, I could not accept anything. I decided then and there that I would single-handedly protest against it.'
Naeemuddin, a close friend of Sanjay Mitra, said, 'When I first heard that Sanjay Mitra is fasting, I was very happy to hear it. He fasts like a Muslim. There is no saying that only Muslims can fast. Anyone can fast if they want.'
Sanjay Mitra does not regularly practice religion. However, his wife also raised questions about fasting as part of the Muslim religion. And so Sanjay Mitra fasted for another month during Chaitra month in rural Bengal.
Just as he does not go to the temple because he does not practice religion regularly, he also does not pray five times in the month of Ramadan. Sanjay Mitra was a former Communist Party member and human rights activist.
