Special article on Eid: Childhood Eid

M. H. Sohail Eid means joy. Eid is a collective joy. The joy of Eid is in everyone's mind. Rich, poor, young and old all have the joy of Eid. But still it seems that the joy of Eid is seen more in the children. At least that's what we saw. As a child, the joy of Eid was different.

Why children's Eid? Why not Eid for adults? Such questions may arise. There is some difference between Eid Anand. We have seen this in real life. Childhood Eid was a different feeling. Before Eid means the joy of buying new clothes. Waiting for Eid in the night before Eid is a different feeling. Another feeling in the morning of Eid. A feeling that cannot be expressed in words.

On the morning of Eid, it is another joy to prepare for prayers by wearing new pajama-Panjabi, and returning home after the prayers. Then there is greeting parents and elders after returning home after Eid prayers. Because when I was a child, Eid salam was an immense joy to receive salami. It is a different feeling to go to the house of relatives including grandparents, uncles and aunts and to eat semai.

Human happiness is a different feeling. Happiness is different. A joy to play sports, a joy to visit weddings or relatives. The joy of Eid again. The joy of Eid is an expression of a different feeling.

Now we don't have so much headache about Eid during the big day. Now we see those childhood joys in our children. Being eager to buy new clothes, buying the clothes you like, all this reminds us of those Eids of our childhood.

This day reminds me of childhood Eid in many ways. As children we used to buy pistols on Eid. A type of small white colored pistol was available then. Those pistols had bullets like caps of homeopathy medicine. The smell of pistol gunpowder is still lingering in the nose. That childhood joy was a different feeling. But in our time, the joy of Eid as a child is not seen as it is now. Now all the joys of Eid become monotonous with a flurry of words on Facebook. The joy of that Eid in the neighborhood is no longer visible.

The joy of childhood Eid is not seen anymore. Now, with the touch of modernity, everything seems to be flowing in a different direction. Just as the current of the river sometimes runs in the opposite direction, the joy of Eid is now flowing in a different direction. But anyway the joy is one and the same. This trend will flow for hundreds of years among Bengalis. Happy Eid-ul-Fitr to all - Eid Mubarak.
